RC Jets are the most awesome radio controlled plane you will ever see. Turbine jets are not for the novice as the turbines and electronics require maintenance and a knowledge of how to maintain them. Also these type of jets are pricy and need skill to fly them. There is also a danger if anything goes wrong as they use A1 jet fuel.
However if you are wanting to fly rc jets there is another type of jet called an Electric Ducted Fan jet (EDF jet). EDF jets are easier to fly and don’t need much maintenance and is not as complicated as a turbine, and are also capable of performing advanced manoeuvres. EDF’s in general are smaller jets, but are extremely powerful. The power unit consists of a fan rotor with various blades kno
w as an impeller, rotating at impressive RPM (revs per minute). Since the impeller spins at a very fast speed, air is sucked in through the intake of the unit and pushed out through the back, which is coned shaped thus producing loads of thrust allowing the jet to fly very fast. The air intake funnel and the outlet funnel or tube are very important as a combination because this is what produces the thrust.
A very good guide would be that the air intake should be no smaller then 80% the diameter of the fan and no larger then the size of the fan. If you are using a two intake design you can figure out how big the intakes have to be by dividing the fan diameter by two then multiplying it by 3.14 (pi). For example a 60mm fan, 60/2=30 and 30 X 3.14=94.2, now 94.2mm is the outside circumference of the fan unit. So we divide 94.2 by 2 = 47.1 this is the max size for each of the two intakes. This gives you the maximum size to find the minimum just multiply 94.2 by .8 “80%” = 75.36.mm. It is a good idea to have a filter of sorts on the intake because if little stones or other objects go through the air intake and into the impeller, lots of damage can be done. This would be if you are building your own EDF, but there are many different type of ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) jets available on the internet that fly superbly and are available in foam or composite.
This is pretty nice information you have shares here. I love rc planes and flying them is so amazing.
